Hillel Slovak was born in Haifa, Israel on the 13th of April 1962.

Young Hillel moved to LA with his father and younger brother James and the age of 5.
He went to Fairfax Highschool and became best friends with the LA native Jack Irons.Together all they did was to play and listen to music, Jimi Hendrix, and groups like Kiss and Led Zeppelin were their biggest influences.

Together with Jack and their good friend Alain Johannes they started their first band 'Chain Reaction'. Later Hillel and Jack joined the band 'Anthym' that was renamed to "What Is This?" where Flea and Anthony also joined. This four teenagers then created the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Together they formed a gang called the Los Faces. When the Chili Peppers were about to record their first album Hillel and Jack got signed to a rival label Together they formed a gang called the Los Faces.

When the Chili Peppers were about to record their first album Hillel and Jack got signed to a rival label with "What is this?" but came back in 1985 and recorded Freaky Styley. After that followed a massive tour in the
U.S. and on some places in Europe.Somewhere in the summer 1986 the band performed at the Variety Arts Center in New York and the 16-year old John Frusciante spotted Hillel and the Chili Peppers for the first time. John was amazad by Hillel's skills and became Hillel's biggest fan since.

In 1984 Hillel started experimenting with heavy drugs and became a Heroin addict. His addiction sometimes disturbed the band's work and they considered firing him by realized that they couldn't cope without him and that it only make things worse. The band continued their work and after the tour they released The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. It was an album with a lot Hillel's sparkling guitar solos that came be characteristic for the band's music.

After the release of the album they went on tour again and started writing new songs. In early 1988 the band released their first compilation album The Abbey Road EP. Musically everything was going very well for the band and their love for each other was bigger than ever. They band began working on their fourth album but Hillel was still caught in serious drug abuse and on
the 27th of June 1988 he was found dead of an overdose in his apartment.

With Hillel Slovak died on of the 80s greatest musicians and fantastic guitar player. He will always be remembered in the heart of the Chili Peppers music. I am positive that he is looking down from the skies with a proud look on his face when he sees what his band has accomplished. The song "My lovely man" from BSSM is about the bands close love to Hillel. Hillel was a true artist and did many paintings. On of them is visible in the Mother's Milk Booklet. The album was dedicated to Hillel. Every time John plays the memory of Hillel is honoured. Hillel played a Red Messenger Fender guitar.
